Oatmeal cookies, wheat cookies, are some of the foods that workers of the non-profit organization, ‘Citymeals on Wheels’, pack as part of their emergency distribution for older adults in preparation for the extreme weather conditions that They happen in the summer.
“So that they have food or that box at home for when they can’t go out, they don’t have money. They use this box and have it there in an emergency”, explained Julio Goris, Logistics Manager, Citymeals on wheels.
According to Goris, City meals on wheels distributes around 80,000 boxes in the five boroughs during the year.
“Every day we receive either calls or ‘letters’, from people who do not have enough funds who do not have that help that perhaps the government does not give them and Citimeals is in that space,” added Goris.
Over the next few weeks, the organization will distribute 45,000 boxes of food to 22,000 seniors directly to their homes or care centers throughout the five boroughs.
