“My birth control pill almost killed me when I was 25 years old.” Holly McComish, a young woman in the UK, said that after taking the birth control pill for 3 months according to the doctor’s instructions, she suffered a minor stroke and lost consciousness. , After waking up, she felt quite scared, only to realize that it was the side effect caused by the pill. Holly believes that contraceptives on the market are too easy to obtain, and you can even go to the pharmacy to buy them yourself. She also called on women to do a more in-depth physical health risk test before taking contraceptives to avoid serious side effects.

According to the British “Mirror” (The Mirror) report, Holly had a telephone consultation with a doctor in August 2021. Due to the epidemic situation, she could not go directly to the on-site consultation. However, under the doctor’s diagnosis, she began to take birth control pills. During the 3 months of taking the drug, Holly would experience headaches, but she only thought it was her body adjusting to the new hormones, so it was normal to feel this state. However, during a meeting one day, she suddenly felt blurred vision and unable to speak. Although she was conscious, she was still unable to move as if paralyzed. Colleagues also quickly called an ambulance, only to learn that it was a transient ischemic attack resulting in minor strokes.

After an in-depth examination, it was discovered that Holly had a heart attack, where the valves closed abnormally and caused thrombosis (blockage of blood), a condition that increased the risk of stroke and migraine. Doctors at the London Hospital of Neurology also told her to stop taking the medicine immediately, thinking that her blood clots were related to the side effects of the contraceptive pill.

According to a documentary about the British contraceptive pill, 77% of the 4,000 pill users had side effects. Holly believes that contraceptives on the market are too easy to obtain, and you can even go to the pharmacy to buy them at will. She calls on women to go through a physical examination before taking them, and doctors should ask patients to undergo strict screening tests before prescribing them. More rigorously judge whether patients can take contraceptives to avoid other serious side effects.
