According to local media, the Romanian authorities have decided to withdraw several types of snacks from the market after the presence of a dangerous substance was discovered in them. The products affected are from the Mogyi range, including salt or chilli fried corn, as well as peanut beer mix with shell and fruit. These products are available in stores of Profi, Metro, Carrefour, Kora and Kaufland chains throughout the country.
The local website Ziare specifies that customers who have purchased these products should not consume them, but return them to the respective stores, BTA reported.
The reason for the withdrawal of the products is the presence of aflatoxins, which are poisonous and carcinogenic substances derived from molds commonly found in grains and cultivated peanuts if not stored properly. The National Agency for Sanitary-Veterinary Control and Food Safety warns that aflatoxins can cause liver damage.
