Nine people, including eight children, were injured in a knife attack in Annecy, southeastern France, police sources said Thursday.
The sources indicated that three of the injured were in critical condition, noting that the age of the children who were victims of the assault did not exceed three years.
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said that an attacker carrying a knife injured children in a town in the Alpine region, referring to his arrest, without disclosing details.
French media reported, at a later time, that the perpetrator of the attack was a Syrian asylum seeker.
For its part, the French National Assembly declared a minute of silence after the attack in Annecy, while the country’s Prime Minister, Elizabeth Born, immediately went to the site of the attack.
