There is no conscientious basis for trying to imprison the Turkish Cypriot youth with unfair restrictions.

President Ersin Tatar, who congratulated our successful athletes by making a statement about the degrees achieved by Turkish Cypriot athletes in various branches, said, “There can be no legitimate and conscientious basis for trying to imprison the Turkish Cypriot youth with unfair restrictions.”

President Tatar’s statement is as follows;

“Sht. Turgut Secondary School being the champion of Turkey in athletics, NEU College Men’s Basketball Team to qualify for the Turkish secondary school basketball finals, with TRNC taekwondo and kempo athletes, Hala Sultan Theology College Men’s Handball Team, Levent College Girls’ Basketball Team in Turkey and Azerbaijan. Along with the successes it has achieved in sports, the degrees achieved in dance, bodybuilding and many other sports branches have made us all proud.

Despite the unfair and inhumane sports embargoes imposed on Turkish Cypriot youth, these achievements of our athletes are the greatest proof of what Turkish Cypriot youth are capable of achieving if given the opportunity.

This justified pride that our children have created for us with their success despite all kinds of restrictions is a very strong message to the entire world public opinion.

There can be no legitimate and conscientious basis for this understanding, which keeps the slogan of democracy and human rights, emphasizes that sports are peace, friendship and brotherhood, while trying to imprison the Turkish Cypriot youth with unjust restrictions.

Our struggle against these outdated restrictions will continue much more determinedly as we witness such successes, no one should doubt it.
I sincerely congratulate all our athletes, their families and coaches and wish them continued success.”
