This week, the National Directorate General of Disaster Management, which is responsible for the implementation of the reduction program, will exterminate mosquitoes in 441 settlements of 13 counties, on more than 90,000 hectares, the organization announced. In the coming days, mosquito control is expected in Kismaros, Nagymaros, Szob, Sződliget, Vác, Verőce and Zebegény.
Adult mosquitoes are primarily protected by ground spraying, and the preparation is applied in the evening and night hours with equipment attached to flatbed vehicles.
As can be read in the announcement of the disaster management: as a result of the changeable, often rainy weather, and the small tidal waves that have descended on the rivers in recent weeks, mosquitoes have appeared en masse in many areas. They appeared in the largest number in settlements along rivers, but the collected rainwater also causes mosquito invasion in many areas.
The larger breeding grounds are constantly examined by the experts commissioned by the disaster management, where possible selective, biological preparations are used to reduce the number of larvae. The locations for this are designated by experts in accordance with the rapidly changing environmental conditions, explained the OKF.
Protection against adult mosquitoes takes place in populated areas of settlements. The dates can be found on the website of the disaster management, but the affected local governments will also receive a separate notification, on the basis of which they will inform the population.
According to meteorological forecasts, front crossings are expected in the next period, the treatments will not be carried out in rainy and windy weather, they will be postponed until later, the disaster management informed.
