Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has pardoned the imprisoned Russian activist Sofia Sapega, reports the state news agency Belta.
Sapega (26) was arrested in 2021 together with her then Belarusian boyfriend Roman Protasevich. The Ryanair plane they were on was forced to land in Minsk.
In May 2022, Sapega was sentenced to six years in prison for charges of, among other things, incitement to hatred and violence or threats to the police.
The ex-boyfriend Protasevicj was sentenced to eight years in prison at the beginning of May this year, but was pardoned a couple of weeks later.
There have been suspicions that Protasevich collaborated with Belarusian authorities after his arrest in 2021. There is very little information about how he has been treated by the security forces.
