Mutual sarcasm between Ukraine and Russia happened about the explosion at the Kakhovka Dam, in southern Ukraine. They blamed each other during an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.
Reported from German wave (DW), Wednesday (7/6/2023), Ukraine’s UN Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya accused Moscow of detonating ‘a mass environmental bomb’ which resulted in flash floods that could have been avoided.
Kyslitsya spoke about ‘acts of ecological and technological terrorism’ in a meeting held in New York, United States of America. The attack was “another example of Russia’s genocidal act against Ukraine,” he said.
Disagreeing with the statement, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebanzya called the incident a “deliberate sabotage by Kyiv” and should be “categorized as a war crime or an act of terrorism.” The reservoir had been turned into an “unimaginable evil,” he said.
In response, Kyslytsya argued the reservoir was within Russia’s control and outside Ukraine’s control, saying it was “physically impossible” for the dam to be damaged by gunfire, even though Russia was mining the dam.

It is known, an attack, which occurred on Tuesday (6/6), on a large Russian-controlled dam in southern Ukraine released a torrent of water that triggered flooding in the vicinity. Dozens of villages were affected by the floods which triggered the evacuation of 17 thousand people.
Reported by AFP, Wednesday (7/6/2023), United Nations Secretary General (UN Secretary General) Antonio Guterres said the partial destruction of the Kakhovka dam in Ukraine was another devastating “consequence” of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Today’s tragedy is yet another example of the terrible price of war on humanity,” Guterres told reporters at UN headquarters in New York.
“The floodgates of suffering have been overflowing for over a year. It has to stop,” he added.
Guterres said the United Nations did not have access to independent information about the circumstances that led to the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam collapse.
“But one thing is clear, this is yet another devastating consequence of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” Guterres said.
Guterres from the start condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for violating the UN charter. He called for attacks on civilians and critical civilian infrastructure to stop.
“We have all seen the tragic picture that is emerging today of a monumental humanitarian, economic and ecological disaster in the Kherson region of Ukraine,” he said.
“The United Nations and humanitarian partners immediately provided support in coordination with the Ukrainian government — including drinking water and water purification tablets and other essential assistance,” he added.
