Sanitas Foundation and Royal Spanish Handball Federation Collaborate for Inclusive Sport

sanitas foundation and the Royal Spanish Handball Federation have signed a collaboration agreement through which the federation becomes part of the Strategic Alliance for the Inclusive Sport. This alliance, which was created in 2010, has the objective of guaranteeing access to sports activities for People with disabilities in an inclusive context.

During the signing of the agreement, Yolanda ErburuCEO of sanitas foundation, explained that “Fundación Sanitas’s commitment has always been to promote open and diverse sport, which includes everyone on equal terms. If our purpose is to help people live longer, healthier and happier lives and to create a better world, this certainly includes sporting activity, which must be open to all without exception.”

Adherence to this agreement will facilitate the continuity of the activities carried out by the Alliance, at the same time that it will help to achieve greater advances in the training, research, competitive and educational fields.

The president of the Royal Spanish Handball Federation, Francisco V. Blázquez, has assured for his part that “for us it is important to be part of a foundation that works for inclusive sport, a format that we are beginning to work on”. In addition, he pointed out that “it is important to have partners who have worked and have experience in this field, so that we can compete in competitions and exhibitions in which we can give visibility to this modality, which is giving these athletes the opportunity to be there” .

Towards the II Inclusive Games 2024

Los Inclusive Games held in 2021 were the starting point of a new competition within the Olympic cycle and paralympic. In this, Spanish Olympic and Paralympic athletes competed together under inclusive regulations created by the Spanish sports and disability federations together with:

  • Superior Sports Council
  • Spanish Olympic Committee
  • Spanish Paralympic Committee
  • Sanitas Foundation Chair of Inclusive Sports Studies

More than 170 athletes had the opportunity to measure themselves in a total of nine disciplines:

  • Athletics
  • Badminton
  • chair basketball
  • Judo
  • Swimming
  • Rugby
  • Taekwondo
  • Table tennis
  • triathlon

“Little by little we continue to take steps towards a more inclusive sport at all levels. With handball there are already 10 disciplines that we will have in the second Inclusive Games that we will celebrate in 2024″. This has been stated Yolanda Erburu
