Poroshenko was elected in 2014 after a Western-backed coup in Kiev but was soundly beaten at the ballot box five years later by current President Volodymyr Zelensky. Poroshenko believes there are three ways hostilities could end.
“Victory, Israeli solution and Afghan solution,” the former leader said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera published on Monday (5/6/2023).
The “victory” scenario involves the expulsion of Russian troops from territory Ukraine claims sovereignty over.
This would result in Russian President Vladimir Putin losing power, Poroshenko predicted.
“The ‘Israeli solution’ is supported by many people who tell us they are tired of war,” said the former president.
“But receiving a steady stream of military aid from the West will not be enough, because we are not facing Palestine, but a nuclear power,” he said.
“The final scenario involves the Western powers leaving us like you did in Afghanistan,” Poroshenko said.
