The club reported that the striker is treating an injury and will undergo more detailed examinations on his return to Rio de Janeiro, but did not explain what the problem was.
The number 9 is the team’s top scorer this season, with 17 goals scored in 27 matches, and also the top scorer in the Brazilian Championship, with six balls in the net. Without him, Janderson is the center forward against the Ecuadorian team.
Botafogo and LDU have a decisive duel for a direct spot in the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana. Tied at eight points at the top of Group A, whoever wins virtually guarantees leadership of the group.
