The State of British Tennis: Jamie Murray Agrees with Dan Evans’ Criticism, Says Emma Raducanu’s Win Only Hid the Shortcomings

Jamie Murray agrees with Dan Evans that the state of British tennis is not the best and that Emma Raducanu’s win at the 2021 US Open only “hid the shortcomings”. At the French Open, Evans criticized the state of British tennis after only three British men and no British women reached the main draw at the French Open.

Also, there are no women WTA players in the UK who rank in the top 100 in the world. Regarding the state of British tennis, Evans suggested that Raducanu’s victory at a Grand Slam in 2021 made the reality of British tennis look better than it actually is.

“Evo is probably right. Emma had this whirlwind two weeks out of nowhere, but that’s not the reality we’re in. Something has to change.”said Murray loudly Express-Sport.

Murray agrees with Evans’ claim of Raducanu’s Grand Slam win.

Historically, Great Britain has had many great players and champions.

In the last 11 years, Andy Murray has secured three Grand Slam titles for Great Britain. In the women’s division, Raducanu became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam since Virginia Wade in 1977. “It’s about the numbers at that level and we just never had that.

It’s decades or more of what I would call underperformance. We had Andy at the top for a long time. This will soon come to an end. Dan Evans and Cam Norrie have of course established themselves on the tour and Jack Draper is on the rise.

For women, we didn’t always have players in the top 10, 20 or 30. That’s just the situation. I just think there’s no reason why we shouldn’t have 10 or 15 players in the main draw and qualifiers of this tournament.

We celebrate when we have two or three players, which is unacceptable. It’s not enough that we, as a Grand Slam nation, come to these events and only let such a small number of players compete. With the financial resources that some players have, we should do better,” said Murray.
