Indonesia’s National Team Training for FIFA Matchday Against Palestine: Concerns Over Low Player Turnout

Only eight players will appear at the inaugural training for the Indonesian national team against Palestine next week. National team manager Sumardji is concerned about this situation.

The Indonesian national team is scheduled to fight against Palestine in the FIFA Matchday on June 14. In preparation, the Garuda squad conducted a training camp (TC) at the Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, which started today (6/6/2023).

However, from detikcom’s monitoring, only eight players took part in the first training for the Indonesian National Team. They are Facruddin Ariyanto, Andi Setyo, Dimas Drajad, Syahrul Trisna, Dendy Sulistiawan and three naturalized players Sandy Walsh, Ivar Jenner, Rafael Sturick.

They were seen following the training instructions given by the Indonesian National Team coaching staff. In training at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, coach Shin Tae Yong was also not seen.

Sumardji said he was very concerned about this condition. Because he was appointed by the General Chair of PSSI and Exco PSSI to provide supervision to players who have been called upon to undergo TC ahead of two FIFA Matchday matches.

“Today is the first practice for the senior national team which will be used for the FIFA Matchday matches on the 14th against Palestine and on the 19th against Argentina. But we can see for ourselves that those who attended, so far only eight. This worries me, to be honest I am concerned,” said Sumardji to reporters.

“But if you see conditions like this it will be difficult, especially for the coaching team. So I need to say I thank you for the eight players who attended. And earlier the general chairman appreciated and will give a separate bonus for those who are at this time,” said Sumardji.

Sumardji also said that the clubs whose players were summoned for training camp should be released immediately. Because it will form chemistry between players.

“In the interests of the national team, ask your club friends to understand, because we also want chemistry and good relations, especially good communication between the club and the national team. Because this is in the interest of the nation and state national team,” said Sumardji.

“What if it’s difficult to get together to train together. I’m asking for the willingness of my fellow club coaches, please come on together for the benefit of the nation and the state,” said Sumardji.
