Introducing Mopedix: The Quirky, Yet Serious, Entry into the Small Electric Motorcycle Market

It was created as a spontaneous idea of a beer party among friends. And his presentation on the website corresponds to this. Mopedix presents itself to the world with a significant amount of humor, but it is very serious about entering the market of small electric motorcycles.

Ilegálix driving mode, silent operation replaced by the sound of a tank, maximum speed 190 km/h… free fall. When you first read the pages of Electric Mopedix, you get the feeling that someone created it as a hilarious April Fool’s joke. But somewhere, the electric moped is really being created in the Czech Republic, after the first prototypes it is approaching serial production, it can already be ordered and homologation is just around the corner.

Mopedix is the brainchild of a group of friends who, in addition to a quirky sense of humor, share a passion for Manety Korado, the successor to the cult babette. The idea for his own electric motorcycle arose one day while drinking hops. And it is more than significant, because today the seat of Mopedix is located on the grounds of the Benešov brewery. Almost complete production takes place here, as well as communication with customers and marketing activities. We also went here when we wanted to get acquainted with mopeds for the first time.

Czech idea, design and components

The creators rely heavily on domestic origin. Mopedix is a Czech idea with a Czech design and the vast majority of Czech components. “We have local collaborators prepare the mudguards, sew the seats, and even assemble the battery cells for us in Brno,” David Kasl, who is responsible for promoting the entire project, tells us.

“Usually we guys are spatially dimensional. And so we wanted a moped on which even a proper guy would look dignified. With the proportions of a large motorcycle, but still a moped, for which a car driver’s license is enough,” the Mopedix group presents their idea. It was decided almost immediately that it would be electric. Shortly after that, however, the idea came that the ride doesn’t have to be quiet, but can also make some kind of sound. And so a repeater became part of the equipment, which, when added, starts the sound of a powerful motorcycle, fighter jet, or even a tank.

I’m not a babe!

Compared to Babette, they are already a bit picky in the company. As they say, mopedix is not a babetta, but a moped for the modern era. After all, the equipment also corresponds to this. In addition to the speaker, the machine attracts, for example, 19″ wheels, disc brakes, a powerful LED headlight in front or a carrier behind the seat, to which you can easily clip a second seat.

Mopedix is homologated for two and you only need a group B or AM driver’s license for it. And since he still has heels (mainly for comfort, but partly also to support the drive), he never needs a technical inspection again.

Amatérix, Legalix is Illegalix

The machine has three driving modes – Amatérix, Legalix and Illegalix. For the first one, the maximum speed is limited to 20 km/h, and the start is gradual, so as not to surprise the novice when he saddles up for the first time. In the middle mode, the machine travels up to 45 km/h, in the most agile even 65 km/h. But because it is homologated as a small motorcycle, the maximum speed will be limited to forty-five. The main difference in these three levels will be pushback.

The machine has one electric motor with an output of up to four kilowatts, two hydraulic brakes with recuperation and a battery with a capacity of 2.3 kWh promising a range of up to 75 kilometers. With a traditional charger, it takes 7.5 hours to recharge the battery, with the more powerful one you can top it up in two and a half hours. The weight of the moped is less than one hundred kilograms, the load capacity is 176 kg.

Comfortable but…

And how is the ride itself? The video attached above will probably tell you best. But I can already say that it is surprisingly comfortable. Who would expect curling and tossing on the slightest unevenness on such a machine with 19s shod, will be pleasantly surprised. And the tap in the strongest driving mode? That’s a lot of fun to watch!

If you like the mopedix and are considering it as a successor to your current babette, we owe you one more important piece of information – the price. You can probably guess that the bet on domestic components and golden Czech hands is definitely worth something. Mopedix can now be purchased for 120,000 CZK as part of the launch event, in addition to the helmet and glasses, it also includes free transport of the machine throughout the Czech Republic, a five-year warranty and a two-year warranty on the battery. So watch your surroundings carefully, the first pieces are slowly starting to appear on Czech roads!
