New Delhi. A large number of farmers gathered near Shahabad in Kurukshetra, Haryana blocked the national highway. These farmers demand that the government should purchase sunflower seeds at the minimum support price (MSP). The police tried hard to vacate the highway by persuading these farmers, but the farmer leaders did not agree, after which the police had to use lathicharge and ‘water cannon’ to disperse the crowd. During this, there was also a minor clash between the policemen and the farmers, after which the police took three farmer leaders and many of their supporters into custody.
Angered by this, the farmers tried to jam the wheel at many places in the state. Farmers protested by stopping the traffic on the roads. He also closed the Gangayacha toll plaza on the Rewari-Rohtak road. Not only this, there is news of road blockade by farmers at many places including Hisar, Sonipat, Jhajjar, Rohtak.
Farmer organizations have demanded that all the arrested farmers should be released immediately. Otherwise its consequences may have to be faced. In view of the displeasure of the farmers, a large number of police forces were deployed on the spot including DSP and several police station in-charges.

This whole episode happened during the protest for not buying sunflower seeds at the minimum support price. Farmers were angry due to non-purchase of sunflower seeds at the minimum support price. Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union opposed this. Farmers allege that the minimum support price of sunflower seeds is Rs 6,400 per quintal, but they are forced to sell it in the market at Rs 4,000 per quintal. In protest, farmers blocked roads at different places. Due to which the police were forced to use force.
