Alexey Goreslavsky, head of the Internet Development Institute, gave an interview RBCin which, among other things, he touched upon the Russian gaming industry and the progress in the development of the game “Trouble” from the studio Cyberia Nova.
Goreslavsky said that “Trouble” is planned for release in early 2024, and the test version will be ready by the end of 2023. The head of the IRI recalled that the department had invested 260 million rubles in the development to build mechanics and the engine, and another 230 million for content.
At the same time, Goreslavsky emphasized that we are talking about funds allocated exclusively for development, and not marketing. Whether the IRI will allocate money for promotion is not reported.
The head of the IRI, in a conversation with RBC, noted that the budget of “Smoot” is less than the same Atomic Heart from Mundfish (according to various estimates, it is 25-150 million dollars).
The budget of a large normal game starts at $10 million and ends in the region of $70-100 million, excluding marketing. But let’s wait for the finished product, let’s see it in action. The main thing is that the product is in demand and used.
Goreslavsky said that in 2023, the IRI laid the budget for six more major projects – these are Sparta, Night at the Museum, the Children’s Health.rf application, the Bodo Borodo mobile game, History Simulator, After Discharge .
They are cheaper and easier, but we expect they should work. Now our task is to make it so that in 2024 the average gamer could choose from a set of five or six Russian games and they would be, let’s say, not shameful.
The head of the IRI believes that it is impossible to develop the gaming industry in Russia only at the expense of budgetary funds. In 2022, the department spent almost 1 billion rubles on games. VK invested the same amount.
If we add private investors who make projects for their own money, then this figure can be multiplied by two or, closing his eyes tightly, by three. We receive a maximum of 6 billion rubles. per year, but rather – 4.5-5 billion rubles. These are pennies for the global video game industry, but they are all well-crafted projects on the market.
Goreslavsky believes that the Russian industry needs to develop new markets – China, BRICS, Southeast Asia, Latin America and others.
