Forest Fires in Canada Cause Unusual Orange Sun and Poor Air Quality in New York City

New York City woke up this Wednesday with an unusual orange sun and an alert for poor air quality.

All this because of the smoke Canadian forest fires that have reached the tri-state area causing this phenomenon.

“There is a current warning of poor air quality in force until Wednesday night for the counties of the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens,” explained Stephanie Viés, a meteorologist for Los Guardianes del Tiempo for Univision 41.

Some 160 wildfires have been reported in the Quebec area so far, with the smoke traveling for miles as far as New York.

network users captured the dull orange sky and sun illuminating part of the tri-state area this morning.

In addition to poor air quality, in New Jersey, an alert was issued for possible forest fires in several counties.

“We also have a fire risk advisory for New Jersey that includes Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris and Somerset counties,” Viés explained.

“This is because we have very low humidity and these winds are going to increase due to the arrival of a cold front in the area,” he added.
