According to the information given by the party, Tufan Erhürman met with the citizens at Maksim Coffeehouse and Maraş Hunting and Shooting Club. During his visit, Erhürman was accompanied by Famagusta District President Oktay Kayalp and some deputies.
“Things that never happened in the past happened in this period”
CTP Chairman Tufan Erhürman reminded that their proposal is to hold early general elections within a year instead of by-elections.
Mentioning what has happened since the last election, Erhürman argued that things happened that had never happened before during the said period.
Arguing that the structure against them came to the government saying “stability”, but instead of stability in this process, “chair games” continued, Tufan Erhürman continued as follows:
“All of this happened during the crisis period when foreigners started to buy all the apartments and houses in the country, the foreign population outstripped our population, private schools became unaffordable, we could not find a place in hospitals, medicines became unavailable, and the dollar and sterling turned its nose up. These happened at a time when crisis was flowing from all sides.”
“There will be an election in which the Turkish Cypriot people will respond to what happened”
Pointing to the by-election on 25 June, Tufan Erhürman added:
“We see this election as an election in which the Turkish Cypriot people will respond to all that has happened. Will the Turkish Cypriot people say okay or will they say enough is enough? He will show his reaction.”
Emphasizing that their main claim in this election is more than just winning one more deputy, Erhürman said, “We see this ballot box as a ballot box where the Turkish Cypriot people do not approve of all this and that this structure needs to go as soon as possible.”
CTP Chairman Tufan Erhürman said, “We do not see this election as an election between Hasan and Hüseyin. We see this election as a step towards reacting to something and starting something new,” he added.
