In 1977, Mark Hamill slipped in the film ‘Star Wars” for the first time in the role of Luke Skywalker – and thereby became internationally famous. In the following years, the Hollywood star returned to the screen again and again in his role. Most recently he starred in 2019 in the popular “Star Wars“-Filming with. But how does Mark Hamill feel about a comeback as a Jedi Knight? In an interview he now takes a stand.

Mark Hamill no longer sees himself as Luke Skywalker

In an interview with “CBS News Sunday Morning”, the 71-year-old now comes to the “Star Wars“-Movies in which he played. He honestly admits that he currently sees “no reason” to slip into the role again. In the interview he clarifies:

I’ve had my time, and that’s good. But it’s enough.

Is Mark Hamill completely ruling out a comeback?

Apparently, Mark Hamill doesn’t seem to completely rule out a comeback as Luke Skywalker. “You can never say never,” he explains his attitude in an interview. In his opinion, there is no reason to bring his character to life again. No wonder, after all, Luke Skywalker died in the movie “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (2017) in the Battle of Endor and became one with the Force. Although he later starred in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” (2019), an episode of “The Mandalorian” (2020) and in “Boba Fett’s book” (2022), but Mark Hamill thinks that the “Star Wars“Makers can do without his character: “They have so many stories to tell that they don’t need Luke anymore.”

This is how Mark Hamill feels about his “Star Wars” role

That Mark Hamill is always identified with the role of Luke Skywalker, although he has also appeared in other films such as “Sushi Girl” (2012) and “Kingsman: The Secret Service” (2014) didn’t seem to bother him much. “I just wanted to make a living doing what I enjoy,” he explains in an interview with “CBS News Sunday Morning”. According to him, it could have been a lot worse “I might be known as the best actor who ever played Adolf Hitler. At least Luke is a lovely guy,” he joked.

Own “Star Wars” series? That’s what Mark Hamill says

In his last appearances in “The Mandalorian” and “Boba Fett’s book“, his character was rejuvenated with de-aging technologies. Some fans were therefore hoping that there could be a completely new series with Mark Hamill, in which he can be seen as a young Luke Skywalker. But the 71-year-old gave hope already a few days ago in an interview with “Esquire”.

“People say, ‘Oh, now you can do a whole series with Luke that follows up on Return of the Jedi.’ But I said, ‘I don’t think so’.

The Hollywood star is of the opinion that these stories don’t necessarily have to be told: “And if they do, then they could get an age-appropriate actor here.”

So it’s unlikely that Mark Hamill will reprise his role as Luke Skywalker. The 71-year-old has not yet revealed whether he also excludes cameo appearances.
