Shared Housing for Seniors in Château du Clos Thiron Morancez

The old Château du Clos Thiron is hidden behind a high metal gate, below a vast plot of land, at the entrance to the town of Morancez, near Chartres.

Two years ago, Christophe and Coralie Voisin acquired one of the ten apartments in this building, surrounded by a 5,000 m² park.

From the terrace, the couple has a view of the greenery and of another apartment, also open to the park, on the ground floor of the castle. “After our installation, I thought that the site would be ideal for accommodating able-bodied elderly people who were looking for a place to live in shared accommodation. I told my wife that the day the apartment next door was put up for sale, we could try to do something with it,” recalls Christophe Voisin.

What was only a vague project, in 2021, materialized much faster than the couple had expected. The 40-year-old remembers:

Last year, the tenant told me that she was going to leave because her landlord had decided to sell. We contacted him and everything went quickly. Our idea was to redevelop the accommodation to make it a shared habitat for young seniors.

Once the file was validated by the bank, the couple was able to buy, in July 2022, this second apartment with an area of 115 m², in the Château du Clos Thiron. Christophe Voisin carried out almost all the work himself, helped by a few friends.

The cook, who works in the Paris region, has several strings to his bow. “I like tinkering and I also like the contact with people,” he says.

Why did the couple opt for this particular rental investment?

“We wanted to create a roommate for seniors who are looking to break their loneliness and want to avoid finding themselves in specialized organizations, where they could no longer receive their loved ones as easily as at home. Unfortunately, we experienced this with my paternal grandmother and my great-aunt.”

The couple have built three bedrooms in the large apartment they have acquired. Each is furnished and equipped with a shower room and toilet. “I took care of the decoration. It has become one of my passions. Everything is almost ready. All that remains is to receive the last bed, ”says Coralie Voisin, who works as a childminder. She prefers to remain quite discreet. “I’m shy, unlike my husband,” she slips, smiling.

Future roommates will share the vast living room, dining room and kitchen with everything needed to prepare meals, from household appliances to dishes. A former vestibule has been transformed into a space for reading or board games.

The rent is set at €1,250 for each of the future roommates. “This includes charges, such as water and oil heating, cleaning of common areas and a telesecurity service”, specify the owners. “We want people to feel good. When they need something, they can call on us, since we will be their neighbors. »
