Kerala: Passenger trying to set fire to moving train, being interrogated in custody

Kozhikode (Kerala). A passenger traveling in an Intercity Express in Kerala was on Monday detained for allegedly trying to set fire to the train compartment. The incident took place on the Kannur-Ernakulam Intercity Express at around 4.15 pm on Monday. Railway Protection Force and Railway Police officials have confirmed the incident. However, the officials of both the forces have not disclosed in whose custody the accused is.

A railway official said, ‘No one was injured during this attempt. The accused person seems to be mentally disturbed. Significantly, in the last two months, two incidents of train arson have taken place in the state. The first incident took place on April 2 in Kozhikode district, in which three people, including a child, were killed and nine others were injured.

Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train also caught fire
On that day, accused Shahrukh Saifi had set ablaze co-passengers in the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train when it was passing through the Korapuzha bridge at Elathur in Kozhikode. On the other hand, on June 1, a person from West Bengal allegedly handed over a coach of the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train in the early hours when it was standing at Kannur station.
