A man is killed and four others are injured after a driver lost control of his vehicle in Manhattan.
The driver remained on the scene and was arrested and indicted on charges.
According to police, the incident occurred at East 21st Street and Third Avenue, when at about 7:30 p.m. Sundaythe 26-year-old driver identified as Mahbub Ali and a Queens resident, tried to avoid a motorist but he lost control and got on the sidewalk.
It was then that he struck and killed a 23-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the street. He then struck an 18-year-old cyclist who is in stable condition.
After getting on the sidewalk, he ran over a 26-year-old woman and the name of 21-year-old, both were taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Also traveling in the vehicle was a 25-year-old woman who suffered minor injuries.
The fatality has not yet been identified, nor is it known if there are immigrants among the injured.
This occurred here where there is a city hotspot that sources say is popular with immigrants for internet access, as it is near a designated temporary shelter police academy at 235 East 20th Street.
