Gert-Jaap Hoekman leaves NU.nl after ten years. The editor-in-chief of the news site will start as editor-in-chief of NOS Sport. The four-member editor-in-chief left there in March after reports of structurally transgressive behavior at the editorial office.
“A lot has been said and written in recent months. I am especially looking forward to building something beautiful with all my new colleagues,” Hoekman said in a first reaction. “It is a great honor to lead the largest sports editorial team in the Netherlands.”
The current editor-in-chief of NU.nl will join NOS Sport get started right away with the formation of a new editor-in-chief. Jacqueline Smit is currently still Head of Sport ad interim. She will assist Hoekman in the coming period.
The editors-in-chief of NOS Sport led by Maarten Nooter, immediately resigned in March when the extent of the abuses on the editorial floor became known. Hundreds of cases of discrimination, (sexual) harassment and bullying, among other things, took place over a period of twenty years.
Hoekman (42) started as deputy editor-in-chief at NU.nl in 2012 and became editor-in-chief a year later. Under his leadership, NU.nl grew from an editorial board of a few dozen editors to an editorial board of about seventy permanent employees.

Egbers and Van Gelder were named as guilty parties
The Volkskrant drew personal stories from various in March NOS Sportemployees on. This showed that Tom Egbers and Jack van Gelder, among others, were guilty of misconduct in several cases. Egbers has not been seen as a presenter on television since then, but has apologized. Van Gelder has done that before.
In December, the NOS started an investigation into possible transgressive behavior at the sports editors. The broadcaster did this after reports from several employees. Almost a hundred complaints were subsequently received by two external confidential advisers. Earlier, the NOS had in response to undesirable behavior in the program The world goes on employees called upon to report abuses.
Hoekman is still active as editor-in-chief of NU.nl until mid-July. Subsequently, deputy editor-in-chief Lindsay Mossink will be acting editor-in-chief until a replacement is found.
