Queen Letizia’s Literary Shopping Spree at Madrid Book Fair

The Queen Letizia is a great fan of reading and has not wanted to miss the opportunity to visit the Madrid Book Fairwhich is held until June 11 at the Retirement park. Taking advantage of a gap in her official agenda, the wife of the King Felipe VI appeared by surprise at the fairgrounds, where he toured several booths and bought 5 copies that reveal your interests and literary tastes.

The books that Queen Letizia bought at the Book Fair

Queen Letizia surprised locals and strangers with her presence at the Madrid Book Fair and although was interested in various titles, including the collection “Reinas consortes” from the editorial Sílex and “Kubrick Total”, by Sergio Peralfinally he opted for others five books that confirm his predilection for essays, letters and the works of established authors. These are the books he took home:

• The City of God, by Pier Paolo Pasolini: an anthology of articles and stories that its author wrote in the 50s, in which he reflects on art, politics, religion and the Italian society of his time.
• Cartas Hawthorne, de Herman Melville: letters written between January 1851 and December 1852, in which Melville shares with his friend, fellow writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, ideas and concerns about his masterpiece ‘Moby-Dick’, as well as other literary and personal topics.
• Lovecraft, by Antonio Jimenez Morato: one of the best-known essays on Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937), the master of cosmic terror, with the translation and prologue by Antonio Jiménez Morato. In this book, Lovecraft exposes his vision of the fantastic and horror genre, as well as his influences and his own creations.
• The Walk, by Robert Walser: mixture of genres in which its author goes for a walk and narrates what he is seeing and feeling. Considered a masterpiece of the 20th century, this short novel is a sample of Walser’s unique and poetic style, which influenced authors such as Kafka or Musil.
• El uso de la foto, by Annie Ernaux: works around 14 photographs that he took with his lover, Marc Marie. Through them, Ernaux reconstructs a clandestine and passionate relationship that lasted five years, and reflects on love, desire, memory and the passage of time.

For your visit to the Book Fair, Queen Letizia opted for a comfortable and casual look, made up of gray jeans, a sailor top, ballerinas and a college-style crossbody bag. The Queen exuded sympathy and closeness with the booksellers and readers who were at the fairgrounds, and even took some photos with them.
