Producer and actress Karla Souza: There are 24% of women directors in the industry but we want that number to grow

The actress and producer Karla Souza was present at the 38th edition of FICG, where she participated in two panels, one as part of the Moët & Chandon talent incubator and in the masterclass “Women in the cinema”, in addition to presenting her film The fall in a special function; there he mentioned the importance of promoting and making women’s work more visible in the industry, considering that 24% of female directors is low compared to the talent that exists, so, from his position, he will promote more participation in other areas of production.
“I am here because I am interested in encouraging and inviting women to enter and be in front of the cameras and with them, to be able to change the narrative and the look we are used to, and with this, achieve diversification in what stories we tell, who tells them and in what way” he said in an interview.
During her time on the red carpet, the actress also expressed her concern that in the industry, mainly cinema, the percentage of women in directing is low, between 17 and 24%: “I would like to see more women behind the scenes , like fishbones, gaffersfocus pullers, cameramen, who really are in all areas of cinema, also achieving greater representation in the stories, which gives us the opportunity to humanize and empathize with the issues that matter to us ”.
SUPPORT FOR NEW GENERATIONS
This year, the producer joins as an ambassador of the Toast for a cause: A toast to new stories, sponsored by Möet & Chandon, and in which the filmmaker Manolo Caro is also a pioneer; there Souza recalled that her debut as a producer with the film The fall for Prime Video it was difficult, but “now I know what it costs to sell and finance a project, and despite the fact that many were in a hurry to do the project, I wasn’t, I went through each process and cooked it very well, that’s why it took me ten years to achieve it, besides being a very important topic for me and what I liked about being part of this program is the diversity of voices, those that the producers are crying out for. We want to be that link to achieve great projects.”
Finally, she commented that she would like to venture into directing and is already negotiating some projects, such as a production that has domestic work as its central theme: “The key factor in producing new content is that it be a subject that urges me to tell how I did it. in The fallthe one that I did not direct because of the moment I was living and what that story represented ”.
