Zlatan Ibrahimovic Retires: AC Milan Striker Ends Career at Age 41

Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic has decided to end his career at the age of 41. The AC Milan striker, whose contract at the club will expire after the season, announced this after the last round of the Italian league, in which he did not intervene in the duel with Verona today.

The native of Malmö has played in just four league games this year affected by health problems and played only 144 minutes in total. Even so, he managed to become Serie A’s oldest scorer when he converted a penalty kick at Udine in mid-March.

Ibrahimovic came to AC Milan for the second time in 2020 and helped them win the title in the 2021/22 season. The club’s management had already announced that they would not extend the current contract with Ibrahimovic and prepared a farewell for him with the fans after the duel with Hellas.

“I’m saying goodbye to football, but not to you,” Ibrahimovic told the cheering San Siro crowd.

During his long career, he also wore the jerseys of his mother Malmö, where he entered professional football in 1999, Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Los Angeles Galaxy.

He played 121 matches in the Swedish national team and with 62 goals he is the national record holder.
