There will be no trains to and from Amsterdam all Monday morning. This is due to a malfunction at the traffic control center in the capital. In the night from Sunday to Monday, no trains ran between Amsterdam and Schiphol because of the problem.
The NS calls on train passengers in and around Amsterdam to arrange other transport or to postpone their train journey. There are also temporarily no trains to and from Schiphol Airport station.
In the rest of the country, travelers may also experience inconvenience as a result of the problems around Amsterdam, the Dutch Railways warns. For example, the municipality of Utrecht reports that no train traffic will be possible around Utrecht Central for the rest of the night.
The malfunction at the air traffic control center occurred at the end of the afternoon on Sunday and was resolved after a short time. But in the evening the problem arose again.
“We cannot find the cause of the malfunction,” says a ProRail spokesperson. Resetting the computer systems has so far not had the desired effect. “In the meantime, we are also looking at alternatives.”
Travelers stranded, no buses deployed
Although the spokesperson emphasizes that he “does not have a crystal ball”, he warns that train traffic may also be disrupted on Monday afternoon. “We hope that a solution will be found in the coming hours. We are the first to indicate that we find this extremely annoying.”
Hundreds of travelers stranded in both Utrecht and Amsterdam last night due to the malfunction. It mainly concerned fans of singer Harry Styles, who had given a concert in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
NS regrets that they “were unable to bring many travelers home last night and that they had to spend the night at the station”. “This is not what travelers should expect from us. Our focus is on making sure stranded travelers get home safely.”
The NS cannot solve the problems on Monday morning by using buses. Too many travelers would then have to be transported by bus.
