United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) Plane Suffers Runway Excursion in Lagos Airport

an airline plane United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) suffered a runway excursion and apparently ends up in the grass next to the runway on May 31, 2023, a non-fatal incident. He Embraer ERJ145 con registration number 5N-BWW landed in it at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos, Nigeria, coming from Abakaliki International Airport, Ebonyi State.

The landing was carried out properly on runway 18L, but then veered off the runway before coming to rest in a grassy area. The 50 people on board the plane, including passengers and crew, disembarked safely and without incident.

Authorities like Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Officials along with UNA engineers moved the aircraft to the hangar to move the aircraft hangar. The runway was closed for around 2 hours, after which operations were reopened.

The cause is unknown so far, but the FAAN is already investigating. Investigators from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) were also investigating the incident. The same day the airline released a press release explaining the situation.
