While we thought the A380 was completely buried, some companies are putting it back online and even making it a selling point.
This is the case of Global Airlines who announced that they were acquiring it, an uncommon practice in the industry. Clearly positioned on the high-end niche, the company announces that it wants to launch transatlantic flights from London to New York and Los Angeles.
Although there are many competitors on this axis such as American, British Airways, United, Jet Blue and, more recently, Norse (born from the ashes of Norwegian), these routes remain the busiest and most profitable in the world.
James Asquith, 34 years old, serial entrepreneur, who had created Holiday Swap, aims to acquire a hundred aircraft by 2025, including other A380s to develop its network to the USA and perhaps Asia. Asquith has a strong financial background having worked at HSBC and Deutsche Bank.
Global wants to fight first on product quality to revive the travels of yesteryear before the explosion of commercial aviation.
The first A380, with its approximately 471 seats in total, will offer a luxurious experience including a spacious Premiere Suite approximately 3 meters long, a double bed and a private toilet. The device will also have Business, Premium, Economy and “Gamer class” classes.
The start of operations is announced in the spring of 2024. It remains for the young CEO to transform the trial into a success on a larger scale.
