Neither the rain nor the storms of the last few days have prevented the people of Burgos from going to the Book Fair in the capital to participate in the numerous activities that have been offered throughout the week and visit the stands of the different bookstores in the Plaza Mayor.
Although it is true that there has not been an influx as high as in the 2022 edition, the group is satisfied with the participation this year. “It has not gone badly,” acknowledges a bookstore from her stand in the Plaza Mayor because, although there have been days of “little movement” due to storms and sales have suffered, the overall figures are good.
Álvaro Manso, president of the Burgos Booksellers Association, assures that the balance of the fair has been “good in terms of organization”, also if we take into account “the activities” and ensures that the events organized “have had a high participation, some of them have been full.” However, in terms of sales, the balance “is not so good.”

«We have had four, almost five days of heavy rain in the afternoon and on the weekend with rain at noon that has made people go home without buying. I estimate that sales have fallen by 15% compared to last year’s fair, which was very good”, he admits.
As for the hits with their own name, Manso bets on the “authors from Burgos”. «I have the feeling that they have sold a lot at this fair. Also the authors who have come to present and sign. In children’s literature, Clodett has stood out above the rest, in terms of books for adults, without a doubt Llamazares, “explains Manso. In addition, he has also assured that it has been a good fair for the “authors of illustrated novels, such as Paco Sordo or Ilu Ros”.
65 authors, 13 bookstores and a multitude of activities, with book presentations and signatures as the main course, have been the offer that the people of Burgos have enjoyed during the last ten days. The most demanded this year when buying have also been the best sellers but some booksellers clarify that they have found “more demanding” readers when choosing titles.
“I divide the position between the best sellers from large publishers, which always have a large audience, and another part for a personal selection of lesser-known titles from small publishers and I can say that this year I have had a more demanding audience,” says a bookstore. . Children’s and youth literature continues its good run and this genre is once again among the best sellers this year.
Not surprisingly, a wide variety of people pass through the Burgos Book Fair, from groups of young people, teenagers, families with children and older people, all of whom have something in common: an interest in reading, whatever their favorite genre.
