Yerevan announced the condition for unblocking economic and transport ties with Azerbaijan.
Armenia continues to move away from the Kremlin after Moscow did not provide it with military assistance in the conflict with Baku. Yerevan refused to allow the FSB of the Russian Federation to exercise control over transport communications with the future unblocking of economic and transport ties with Azerbaijan.
The corresponding statement was made by the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan in broadcast Public Television of the Republic.
According to him, full control over the borders and border services will be exercised by Armenia. Grigoryan called this an important detail in the issue of unblocking the transport connection.
“This is the position of the Armenian side, which, I think, is already clear to all partners involved in the process”the official said.
The Secretary of the Security Council noted that a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku could be signed before the end of this year if the intensity of negotiations and support from the international community continue.
After the five-party meeting in Moldova, there has been some progress, but there is no final decision at the moment.
Commenting on the talks in the Kremlin and answering the question why they lasted only 20 minutes, Grigoryan said that this should be asked from the side organizing the meeting.
The Secretary of the Security Council also acknowledged that the presence of Armenia in the CSTO (pro-Russian military alliance) creates difficulties for the Armenian side, but does not limit interaction with other states. Yerevan is actively working with Western partners and will continue to do so in the future.
In addition, Grigoryan said that Armenia has already partially found alternative solutions for the purchase of weapons, since the Russian Federation has a shortage of weapons against the backdrop of its war with Ukraine.
Recall that at the end of May, Armenia and Azerbaijan mutually renounced their territorial claims. In addition, Yerevan announced its readiness to unblock transport corridors.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the country is ready for a peace agreement with Azerbaijan through compromise solutions.
