After almost three months, the Expert Commission finished its work on May 31 and agreed to give the green light to the draft Constitution that it will deliver next Wednesday, June 7 to the members of the Constitutional Council.
On December 12, 2022, the different political forces with parliamentary representation publicly delivered the document called “Agreement for Chile”, which established the principles of the new Constitutional Process.
In said text it was agreed that the instance would be made up of three bodies, which would propose, discuss, review and draft a new Constitution: A Constitutional Council (50 people elected by popular vote plus representatives of indigenous peoples), an Expert Commission (24 members) and a Technical Admissibility Committee (14 members).
In addition, 12 central or border principles were established as parameters for the new initiative, among them, that Chile will be a social State of law and that fundamental rights will be protected, such as freedom of conscience and religion; teaching; to the life; and the property.
In total, 88 sessions of the subcommittees and 28 plenary sessions were held, which in this case lasted more than 88 hours of work, where the rules of the 14 chapters were reviewed and discussed to prepare the draft of the new Constitution. .
