Andrei Rublev’s icon “Trinity” will be in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior for a year, then it will be returned to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. This was announced on June 3 by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ after an all-night vigil at the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra.
“Tomorrow I will not be able to be in this temple and in general in the Lavra precisely because in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior we will pray before the returned image of the Holy Trinity. Then, during the year, the miraculous image will be in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior so that Muscovites and guests of the capital can bow to this great shrine. And then this image will return here, to the holy temple to a historical place, ” – quotes the patriarch TASS.
The historic decision to return the Trinity to the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, where a copy of the icon is now located, was made, according to the patriarch, by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. He also called the image of the Trinity, painted by Rublev, the main icon of the Russian Orthodox Church.
“She miraculously conveys the mystery of divine being, the mystery of the consubstantiality of the three persons of the Holy Trinity. Special events in the life of our people are connected with this icon … Right now, when our Fatherland is confronting huge hostile forces, this image is returning to the church so that, praying before it, we would praise the Lord and at the same time ask him to help our Fatherland, ” the patriarch said.
Recall that the icon “Trinity” will be available to believers in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior from 4 to 18 June. Patriarch Kirill will hold a divine service in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on June 4, after the liturgy the icon will be available for worship.
