Egyptian-Israeli Urgent Security Meeting Held After Shooting Incident at Border

Today, Saturday, the Egyptian military spokesman announced the details and circumstances of the shooting incident on the border with Israel, which resulted in the killing of 3 Israeli soldiers, according to a statement issued by the Israeli army earlier today.

The Egyptian army statement said that “at dawn today, Saturday, one of the security personnel in charge of securing the international border line chased the drug smuggling elements, and during the chase, the security personnel breached the security barrier and exchanged fire, which led to the death of 3 Israeli security personnel and the wounding of two others, in addition to the death of The Egyptian security personnel responded during the exchange of fire.

The Egyptian military spokesman stated that “all search, inspection and insurance measures are being taken for the area, as well as taking legal measures regarding the incident.”

This comes as the Israeli army announced, earlier in the day, that the death toll of Israeli soldiers during the clashes on the border with Egypt in the area of ​​the Faran Regional Brigade rose to 3 dead. The Israeli army said it was investigating the circumstances of the security incident and combing the area in cooperation with the Egyptian army.

Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath sources reported that Egyptian-Israeli contacts were exchanged to hold an urgent security meeting regarding the shooting at the border and to form an Egyptian-Israeli committee on the shooting incident at the border and to prevent its recurrence.

Israeli media reported that the bodies of Israeli soldiers were found on the border with Egypt hours after the incident.

The Israeli army said that “in the afternoon hours, the military forces detected, during the combing operations, the same shooter inside Israeli territory, where an exchange of fire broke out, during which the soldiers and commanders managed to kill the gunman. During the clash, an Israeli soldier was killed, and a non-commissioned officer was slightly wounded.”

Simultaneously, Avichai Adraee said in a tweet on “Twitter” that the Israeli army forces continue combing the area, after the Israeli army confirmed, earlier, that an exchange of fire took place in an area near the border with Egypt, in what it described as a “security incident.” on the border with Egypt,” which resulted in two injuries, indicating that the circumstances of the accident are under investigation.

The Israeli Army Radio reported this morning that the incident occurred while the forces were trying to thwart smuggling activities in the area.

The Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, held “security assessment consultations” with army chiefs regarding the clashes on the border with Egypt.
