London: The World Test Championship final is yet another golden opportunity for veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane to cement his place in the Test team. After a long 16 months, Rahane was returning to the squad in the World Test Championship final. In the 2020-21 tour under Rahane’s captaincy, Team India won the series in Australia, but after this poor performance, Rahane lost the vice-captaincy and the place in the Test team. Rahane last played a Test against South Africa in January 2022.
After this, Rahane returned to the Indian Test team after proving his talent by playing domestic cricket and IPL. Here are Rahane’s words about his return to the squad for the final against the Aussies. “Happy to be back in the Indian team after 18, 19 months. This is a very special return. I need to maintain my batting form. Don’t worry too much about the format. The goal ahead is to keep things simple and excel. That is better. When he got out of the team, he got a lot of support from his family. The family was told to continue playing for India. I put a lot of hard work into fitness. Returned to domestic cricket and performed well for Mumbai. My family and I were emotional when I was recalled to the Indian team. In the last two years I have received so much support from my family members. Rahane said that he learned a lot from mistakes and failures.
Mumbai’s captain Ajinkya Rahane scored 634 runs in 11 innings at an average of 57.63 in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy. It is certain that Rahane, who is experienced, will play in India’s middle order against Australia in the Test Championship final. Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pooraja will also strengthen the Indian middle order along with Rahane. Thirty-four-year-old Rahane has scored 4931 runs in 82 Tests with 12 centuries at an average of 38.52.
