Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo faced the Chinese doubles Liang Wai Keng/Wang Chan in the semifinals at the Huamark Indoor Stadium, Bangkok, Saturday (3/6/2023) afternoon WIB. They lost 13-21, 19-21 in 32 minutes.
A number of mistakes at the start of the match made Marcus/Kevin immediately fall behind 0-4. Having chased to close the distance to 3-5, the Minions again gave points several times so that they were 5-11 behind at the interval.
That wide distance was maintained by Liang/Wang until they were ahead 15-6. Marcus/Kevin were quite overwhelmed by their opponents’ attacks, so they finally gave up the first game 13-21.
Marcus/Kevin started the second game again trailing 0-4. They were able to reduce the difference to 7-8, but closed the interval behind 8-11.
Marcus/Kevin were able to stick in the end, then turned around to win 17-16. However, a number of errors from the Indonesian doubles gave Liang/Wang the opportunity to catch up and lead 20-17, eventually winning 21-19.
Indonesia still leaves Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the other semifinal, who are currently facing the doubles of South Korea Choi Sol Gyu/Kim Won Ho.
