COVID-19 Update: Indonesia Reports 252 New Cases as Wuhan Lab Leak Possibility Discussed by Chinese Scientist

Jakarta

COVID-19 cases in Indonesia today added 252 new cases, bringing the cumulative total of confirmed cases since the outbreak of the outbreak to 6,808,308. In the same period, the number of recovered cases increased by 621 and the number of patients who died was much lower, namely two people.

There were 11,272 specimens examined today with 713 suspected cases.

Amid predictions of a new wave of China’s COVID-19 reaching 65 million cases per week, the former top scientist there is again talking about the origin of the Corona virus regarding the existence of a lab in Wuhan.

Quoted from BBC News, the man who used to be the head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control (CDC), Prof. George Gao, said that the possibility of the virus ‘leaking’ from the laboratory cannot be ruled out.

“You can always suspect anything. It’s science. Don’t rule anything out,” he explained, quoted Saturday (3/6/2023).

Virologist Prof Gao is currently president of the China International Vaccine Innovation Institute after retiring from the CDC last year.

Prof Gao confirmed that the Chinese government is currently reviewing the possibility of the leak, although several times it has denied the source of the virus transmission came from the Wuhan laboratory.

“The government is setting things up,” he said, but added that he was not involved in the tracing.

“Yes, the lab has been double-checked by experts in the field.”
