On April 2023, the vivo X Fold2 was launched. Unfortunately, the company plans to exclusively market the smartphone in China which led to disappointment among international fans of the brand and the foldable scene. Nonetheless, GSM Arena had the privilege to handle one Blue unit of vivo X Fold2 for a comprehensive review.
The phone folds and unfolds smoothly and feels comfortable when held in one hand or with two hands. While the 279-gram weight of X Fold2 is over 10% lighter than its predecessor, it is still heavier than other foldables in the market like the Honor Magic Vs or the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 on paper. However, the difference in real life won’t be noticeable. For its size, the vivo phone’s extra depth due to being foldable offers a variety of features to be explored.
The vivo X Fold2 has two under-display fingerprint scanners behind both panels. This feature is unique among foldables, and like other vivo phones, they work quickly and reliably. The X Fold2 also has a 6.53” AMOLED panel cover and an enormous 8.03” LTPO4 AMOLED – the biggest in the industry.
Moreover, X Fold2’s charging department is another standout feature. Its 4,800 mAh battery supports vivo’s FlashCharge at 120W, which is almost twice as fast as the next best thing, the Oppo Find N2. The company claimed 0 to 100% battery charging can be accomplished in just 26 minutes. In addition, the phone is capable of 50W Wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging for all kinds of smart wearables. The phone also has reverse wired charging capabilities, but it’s an uncommon feature in most phones.
The back of the X Fold2 has a 50 MP main camera, a 12 MP telephoto unit with 2x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, which is similar to what the vivo X90 offers. Both the cover display and the interior of the phone have selfie cameras that use 16 MP sensors and f/2.5 apertures.
The vivo X Fold2 is the only foldable on the market that runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Although not many users can buy it since it’s only available in China, reviewers will surely explore how it stacks against the competition.
In terms of design, the phone comes with a Blue leather case for the back panel that matches the finish of the phone, protecting it from scratches or damage. It also includes a 120W fast charger, a USB-C cable, a SIM tray ejection pin, and some warranty documents that cannot be used outside China.
The vivo X Fold2 marks the first partnership between OriginOS 3 and vivo. The phone’s extra depth offers an extensive range of features that would otherwise be unavailable in other foldables. Despite being exclusively released in China, the phone offers standout features like its charging department, under-display fingerprint scanners, and superb camera qualities. While its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor may seem excessive, it promises to deliver fast and responsive performance that can compete with even the most high-end smartphones.
