“The calendar is not yet complete and together with the WTA we are still looking for possibilities and dates so that the tournament can take place in Ostrava. The spectators and the players liked it and I think it turned out that such a tournament suits Ostrava and the whole of the Czech Republic,” said Petera in a statement for ČTK.
The Ostrava tournament of the elite WTA category has been held since 2020. Last year, it was won by Barbora Krejčíková, who defeated world number one Iga Šwiateková from Poland after a more than three-hour fight. The match later won the WTA fan vote for the most attractive duel of the season.
In an April interview with Livesport Zprávy, Petera said that the organizers are trying to get a date on the calendar between October 16 and 22 instead of the tournament in Moscow. But so far only the WTA 250 category competitions in Nanchang and Monastir are certain. Other tournaments from September to October will include the “thousands” in Beijing, the “five hundred” in Zhengzhou or the “two hundred” in Canton and Ningpo.
The only certain WTA tournament in the Czech Republic so far is the Livesport Prague Open, which will take place at the Sparta Prague complex in Stromovka from July 31 to August 6. Marie Bouzková will defend her title in it.
