It is a demonstration of power without any revolution.
With substantial longevity and really high peaks.
But you probably have to be a bit silly to enjoy it fully.
Diablo IV
From 18 years
Taken: From approx. SEK 699
Format: PC, Xbox Series, Xbox One, PS4 och PS5
Developer: Blizzard Entertainment
Publisher: Blizzard Entertainment
That’s a strong four. Both the game itself and in turn the rating.
Much is recognizable from the past and the gameplay is brutally entertaining.
Although you probably need to be a certain type of player to like it.
Focus on the end game
For a so-called “hardcore” gamer, especially for Blizzard fans, Diablo 4 will be almost spot on.
As I said, the mechanics differ relatively little from previous titles in the game series. Then, above all, “end game” – that is, when the main story itself is finished – is something that has been put extra powder on. Both PVP (player versus player) and all dungeons should provide a really long lifespan. For those who want to go that way.
For more “casual gamers” who are looking for an entertaining RPG on their own, I can see that Diablo 4 could land a bit in between.
The soundstage is masterful
I’ll admit that I’m still a bit of a “stupid” me. I go hard on all the incredible cutscenes in CGI and still hope that Blizzard will make a feature film in this format at some point.
On top of that, I almost rudely enjoy the brutal gameplay it offers. The game is pretty as hell. But above all, it is an ear orgasm.
Demon roars and snarls, swords clanging and AOE magic smacking, the splash of body parts separating… Mmmhm. And what soundtrack is that!? Masterful, fuck me.
Wickedly icy cold
Then I am not immediately bothered by the fact that the game may not always challenge very much. I enjoy being the superior hero who piles up hordes of enemy corpses. The true challenge is still found in the end game.
New attacks and abilities are gradually introduced at the right pace. It will be neither mushy nor boring. Both for the barbarian and the sorcerer, the classes I actually got to play, the character’s journey towards greater power was an extremely fun one.
That said, it wouldn’t have hurt to have more epic boss fights. They can be a bit bland at times. Especially considering the diabolical setting the game has.
Then the story, despite a dead cool and wickedly cold Lilith in focus, has more to give. As so often these days in the gaming world, it feels like more substance and emotion can be found in the side quests.
Satisfyingly invincible
If you are not into hack ‘n slash and are looking for a deeper role-playing experience, there are clearly better alternatives out there. This relatively superficial “I’m above everything” slaughter doesn’t tickle everyone’s adrenaline wells. Again, you may need to be a little silly in love with “all things cool” to fully enjoy.
But the undersigned is convinced:
“Diablo 4” makes me feel satisfyingly invincible.
