“We see this week, like last week, a sharp drop in narcotics transactions.” This is the balance sheet drawn up by the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes, this Thursday noon, for a new week of control at the Moulins in Nice. For nearly two months now, the State has been putting increased pressure on dealers in this neighborhood in a priority reconquest zone.
Would the results start to show? At least that’s what the prefecture says in a press release. “Police checks inevitably hinder traffic. The pressure bears fruit and nothing will be released.” “Security operations continue at a very sustained pace”, hammer the services of the prefect Bernard Gonzalez. They welcome the contribution of drones, the use of which was recently validated by the Council of State, and which “fly at regular frequencies”.
Sharp decline in quantities seized
In figures, the week of May 22 to 28 resulted in 18 control operations, for 419 people checked. 24 of them, including 8 minors, were arrested, mainly for drug offenses (16) but also for violations of staying on French soil (6). Since April 10, 242 people have been arrested, 43 referred to the prosecution and 13 imprisoned.
On the seizure side, the police identified 550g of cannabis, 140g of cocaine and 2675 euros in cash. Significantly lower numbers. The prefecture wants to see there the reflection of a brake on the traffic of narcotics at the Moulins. A district that has again fueled the miscellaneous news section this week. Wednesday morning, a shooting broke out, injuring one and generating a hectic arrest on avenue de la Bornala. A few hours earlier, a teenager had been stabbed.
