New law prohibits employment of children under 14, with exceptions

It is now forbidden to hire a young person under the age of 14, with some exceptions. The employer will have 30 days to dismiss children who do not meet the minimum age.

Bill 19 passed unanimously in the National Assembly on Thursday. Certain exceptions have been provided for in the new law. Help with homework, babysitting, working in a family business with less than 10 employees, working in a non-profit organization such as a summer camp, working in a non-profit sports organization and agricultural enterprises are all exceptions, where young people under the age of 14 can continue to work.

It is also provided for in the law that young people, aged 14 to 16, cannot work more than 17 hours per week, including 10 hours from Monday to Friday, during the school term.

More details to come…
