Ukraine’s entry into NATO cannot be an item on the agenda for the summit in Vilnius in July, Hungary’s foreign minister says on Facebook.
– We must be clear on this point: NATO membership for a country at war cannot be a topic during the summit, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto wrote on Thursday.
He added that any kind of timetable for Ukrainian membership must also not be on the agenda for the meeting in about a month.
Hungary is out of step with other European countries in their view of the Ukraine war and has blocked any EU aid to Ukraine. The country’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban has also not condemned the Russian invasion and maintains that it came as a result of failed diplomacy.
