3-Year-Old Students of Nazareth School Make Environmental Awareness Film

The families of the 3-year-old students of the Nazareth school were invited yesterday to a very special film session. The projection was made in the two classrooms of the center where his children study, who were also the protagonists of the film. As soon as they arrived, two children handed them the necessary tickets to attend the session and a few steps further on they took the popcorn, which they had placed in glasses decorated by their children, at a stand set up for the occasion. The short film, about four minutes long, is entitled “Juanito, the pirate and a sea of colors” and the nearly thirty students were the actors, and they showed their sadness at how dirty the sea is.

Yesterday “they saw each other for the first time on the screen,” said Carmen Rodríguez Colunga. She and Irene Echevarría Gutiérrez are the teachers in the 3-year-old classrooms. With the lights off and the children sitting on the floor, with their mothers and fathers in their chairs, the session began. “Look, we all came out,” said one of the students during the screening.

This activity is part of the “At the bottom of the sea” project, which they are working on in the first year of the second cycle of the Infant stage, this term. “We started from a story and we adapted it to talk about the colors of the dirty sea that Juanito doesn’t like,” said Carmen Rodríguez.

Filming took place in a space close to the two classrooms. The students passed through there and acted. The teachers were in charge of filming with their cell phones, and of the editing, to obtain the film by Nazaret Films, which was a complete success. The students of the fourth year of ESO collaborated in the project, who put the voice-over in the radio studio.

Among the objectives of the initiative is the environmental awareness of 3-year-old students, “teaching them to recycle or turn off the tap so as not to waste water,” Rodríguez said. After the film session, they explained that the plastic is thrown into the yellow container and the paper into the blue one.

The families praised the work of their children. “It has been a great collaborative effort, in which everyone has joined in a very fun activity,” said Marcos Viejo, father of one of the students. Iván Lorences also highlighted “the work of the children and the teachers in this project.”
