It could well be the biggest royal celebration of this year: the wedding of the Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein. Willem-Alexander, Máxima and Amalia are currently in Jordan to see the groom and his soon-to-be Rajwa say yes. What can the Oranjes expect from this day?
“She is the perfect answer to all my prayers for my son.” These are words of praise from Queen Rania, addressed to her future daughter-in-law Rajwa Al Saif (29).
The whole of Jordan is on the edge of its seat for the wedding between the 28-year-old crown prince and Rajwa. This is celebrated extensively on Thursday.
Preparations have been in full swing for weeks. Life-size posters of the bridal couple can be found in the city. Just like the specially designed logo for the wedding, which is projected with light in different places. On Monday evening there was even a free wedding concert for all young people in the capital Amman.
The family itself is already in the party mood. For example, Prince Hussein’s wife-to-be celebrated a traditional henna party last week, comparable to a bachelor party. “She is the sweetest and most beautiful bride-to-be,” Queen Rania said after the party. “Rajwa is as dear to me as my other daughters.”
The crown prince and princess has a big task ahead of them
The photogenic couple does not reveal much about their relationship. Prince Hussein has said they met through a mutual friend. “I consider myself a lucky man to have someone like Rajwa in my life.” But he leaves it at this sparse statement.
In August 2022, the couple got engaged, in front of all four of their parents. From then on, Rajwa can be seen more often during official occasions.
That will happen even more often after their wedding: Rajwa can then officially call herself crown princess. The Jordanian, who studied architecture and also works in that sector, will then devote all her time to activities for the royal family.
Of course, that also applies to Crown Prince Hussein, the heir to the throne of his 61-year-old father, King Abdullah. Unlike in the Netherlands, the royals in Jordan have an administrative function. So they have a lot of power and influence. It is therefore important that you as heir to the throne prepare as well as possible for this major role.
Black tie for Máxima
The ceremony will take place at Zahran Palace, the same place where King Abdullah and Queen Rania were married in 1993. For the reception, the party moves to Husseiniya Palace, where the royal family resides.
Máxima can grab a beautiful dress from the closet, because the wedding promises to be anything but a modest party. The Jordanian royals are known for their excellent fashion sense and glamour.
That was clearly visible last month during the wedding of Hussein’s younger sister, Princess Iman. The dress code, according to the Queen of Malaysia, is “black tie, with long dresses – but no tiaras,” the wedding guest wrote on Twitter. Bad luck for Princess Amalia, who is a huge fan of tiaras.
It is not yet known what the bride will wear, but Rajwa was seen in Milan in late 2022 with her mother and mother-to-be. So it seems that she has chosen a wedding dress from an Italian designer.
Congratulations with a hashtag
In addition to Willem-Alexander, Máxima and Amalia, many more royals and prominent figures will take place in the palaces on Thursday. Such as Princess Victoria of Sweden and her husband Daniel, the American first lady Jill Biden and Princess Takamado of Japan. In addition, there are rumors that the British Prince William and Catherine are on the guest list.
Guests can send any congratulations under the hashtag #CelebratingAlHussein, which was specially created for this wedding celebration. No doubt Queen Rania, who is very active on social media, is quick to share some images on Instagram.
