19-Year-Old Claims Paralysis from COVID-19 Vaccine Second Dose, Seeks Million Euro Damages from Spanish Ministry of Health

A 19-year-old resident of Écija (Seville) has filed a claim against the Ministry of Health, asking for almost one million euros in damages, considering that he became a paraplegic as a result of the second dose of the vaccine against covid-19.

As his lawyer, Fernando Osuna, explained to EFE, and is included in the complaint filed, the young man uses different medical reports that would support that the 84 percent disability that he has certified is “directly related to the vaccine,” specifically with the second dose, which he received on September 23, 2021.

According to what he indicates, after these doses he began to suffer “small sensory alterations with weakness in both arms” to which he did not attach importance, since he attributed them to the side effects of the vaccine, but in December 2021 he began to have motor disturbances in the legs and pain in the back that worsened “until I was completely unable to walk”.

On December 13, 2021, he went to the Emergency Department of the Hospital de Alta Resolución de Écija, from where he was referred to the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville, where he remained admitted until January 5, and “after the corresponding treatment and diagnostic study”. he was transferred “from the Neurology ward to the Spinal Cord Injury Unit” to remain hospitalized until August 26.

Two weeks earlier, on August 11, he was diagnosed with “Transverse myelitis in temporal relation to the second dose of vaccine with covid”, while the discharge report indicated “incomplete spinal cord injury of sensory level C7 right/C6 left, and level motor C7 right and C8 left of medical cause in probable relation to inflammatory etiology”.

The young man left the hospital with a treatment of seven different drugs, and on December 11, 2022, he was recognized with a degree of disability of 84 percent by resolution of the Territorial Delegation of the Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality .

The lawyer Fernando Osuna has highlighted that the young man was an active athlete until he received the vaccine, and in the claim he asks that it be taken into account that the rehabilitation treatment he has to undergo is not covered by the Public Health System, for which, since September 2022, has spent more than 6,000 euros to travel to Seville and pay for therapies in a private center.
