Every time an athlete from Ñuble goes out to compete internationally, they almost always do so with their own effort and that of their families, for which they already deserve all the recognition.
This is the case of the exponents of Club BMX Ñuble, Laura Quezada and Florencia Durán, who pedaled against the best of the continent in the recent Pan American BMX Championship held in Riobamba, Ecuador.
The talented Laura Quezada touched a medal, occupying fourth place on the podium of the contest that brought together almost 800 bicyclists from all over the continent.
Laura came from being third in the Latin American and fourth in the International Tournament of San Juan Argentina.
Meanwhile, Florencia Durán said goodbye in the qualifying heats of the contest and Antonio Quezada said goodbye to the Pan American, after suffering an unfortunate fall that left him out of the competition for the champion’s crown.
Florencia had obtained second place in the international contest of San Juan, after five months without being able to compete due to a fracture.
In the Ecuadorian competition, bicyclists from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Canada and Ecuador gathered.
The competitions were held at the renovated Riobamba BMX track, one of the best in the region. “It has international dimensions, it is one of the best tracks in America” said Santiago Rosero, president of the Ecuadorian Cycling Federation (FEC).
There was also support from the Riobamba authorities. The BMX Round 6 Copa Latina C1 Pan American Championship will take place from May 19 to 21. An event of these dimensions in BMX has not been held in the country for 13 years.
Ecuador presented the largest delegation of the contest, with 362 athletes. Then there was Colombia that confirmed 215 cyclists.
Chillan Track
Local bicyclists go abroad to compete, despite the fact that the new Quilamapu BMX track has not yet begun to be built in Chillán. However, within the Chillán Bicicross Club there is joy and hope, because this week the Regional Government decided to contribute an additional 200 million pesos, in order to complete the construction of the long-awaited international standard bicicross circuit. In total it will be $1,200 million contributed by the GORE so that the municipality can award the works of the track that were left unfinished in the middle of the pandemic and that in 2021 gave way to a provisional circuit.
