Jakarta –
CloudSEK Researcher identify campaigns malware sophisticated known as DogerAT (Remote Access Trojans). This campaign is carried out through the distribution of fake Android apps designed to look like legitimate apps.
DogeRAT is a complex Android malware that mostly spreads via social media and messaging platforms under the guise of legitimate apps such as Opera Mini, OpenAI ChatGOT, and Premium versions of YouTube, Netflix, and Instagram.
When infecting devices, malware steals personal data, grants attackers remote access to infected devices, and bombards users with unwanted advertisements.
In addition, the report states that the DogeRAT malware can also take control of infected devices, enabling malicious actions such as sending spam messages, making unauthorized payments, modifying files, and even taking photos remotely through the device’s camera.
“Once installed on a victim’s device, the malware gains unauthorized access to sensitive data, including contacts, messages and banking credentials,” cybersecurity firm CloudSEK said in a report.
“It can also take control of infected devices, and use them to send spam, make unwanted payments, modify files, check call logs, to take pictures using the front and rear cameras.”
The researchers also discovered that DogerAT’s creators are promoting it through Telegram Channels, offering a premium version with additional capabilities such as screenshot, image stealing, keylogging, and more.
CloudSEK researchers suggest it’s important to keep an eye on DogeRAT malware and take precautions to protect yourself. Here are a few things to keep in mind when protecting your Android phone:
- Avoid clicking on unknown links- If you receive a link or attachment from someone you do not know, do not click or open it.
- Keep software up to date – Install Android updates and patches as soon as they are provided by the device vendor. Important security improvements are often included in updates.
- Take advantage of security solutions – A solid security solution can help protect your device from malware and other harm.
- Fraudsters use urgency, fear and greed to fool victims. Avoid clicking links or opening attachments if you are unsure about the correspondence or offer.
- Understanding malware by studying it will help you detect and avoid it.
- Avoid apps from untrusted sources, websites or public forums.
