Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia After some time of testing, on May 23, 2023 Netflix officially banned password sharing in the United States (US).

In other words, if someone who doesn’t live under the same roof wants to ‘hitch’ your account, he has to pay an additional fee of US$7.99 per month.

The customer must decide whether to pay more for another member or remove the person from their account.

The policy change sparked controversy for Netflix subscribers in the US. Shortly after the policy was enacted, social media was flooded with complaints.

Collect BGRhundreds of users protested on Twitter using the hashtag #CancelNetflix in recent days.

That’s just a small example of the frustration bubbling up since last week’s ban. Meanwhile, other users took the opportunity to criticize the quality of content that Netflix has released recently.

They oppose all original draw cancellations and encourage other users to cancel their subscriptions as well.

The company obviously knew there would be some criticism for this new policy, but it wasn’t enough to concern Netflix’s bosses.

Even if thousands of subscribers cancel, others will simply grit their teeth and deal with additional member fees to continue watching their favorite shows.

“From our experience in Latin America, we expect some cancellation backlash in each market when we launch paid sharing, impacting near-term member growth,” Netflix explained earlier this year in an earnings report.

“But as borrower households start activating their own self-served accounts and additional member accounts are added, we expect to see an increase in overall income, which is our goal with all the package and pricing changes.” they added.
