(Ecofin Agency) – While waiting to acquire aircraft suitable for long-haul flights, Air Côte d’Ivoire is counting on its code-sharing partnerships to provide this service to its customers.
Direct flights between Abidjan and New York were relaunched on May 29, after more than 2 years of interruption due to Covid-19. This link operated in code share with Ethiopian Airlines allows Air Côte d’Ivoire to benefit from the American network of the Ethiopian carrier, while waiting to strengthen its fleet with long-haul aircraft to serve the USA itself.

“With Ethiopian’s presence in Washington, New York, Newark, Atlanta and Houston, today around thirty air connections are possible thanks to this partnership for the benefit of Félix Houphouët Boigny International Airport”said the Ivorian Minister of Transport, Amadou Koné.
Since the suspension of direct flights, trips were made with correspondence, thus forcing passengers to pay more for the ticket, not to mention the longer journey time. The interconnection of the 2 countries should stimulate trade relations.
According to Amadou Koné, beyond the strong African community, the USA is for Côte d’Ivoire the 2nd export country and the 5th import country after China, Nigeria, France and India.
